Engagement

The Engagement team at Kurongkurl Katitjin work closely with schools, TAFEs and communities across Western Australia to inspire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue higher education. Through strong partnerships and culturally responsive programs, the team helps make the university pathway feel accessible, welcoming and achievable.

Supporting the Student Journey

Our Engagement team are dedicated to building meaningful connections with prospective students and their families through outreach and engagement activities that introduce the university experience in practical and engaging ways.

These programs include:

  • On-campus immersion days that allow students to explore university life firsthand
  • School outreach workshops focused on transition planning, career pathways and study options
  • Yarning Circles that bring together students, families and Community members to discuss higher education
  • Opportunities to meet current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and learn about scholarships and study pathways

Outreach and community engagement

Kurongkurl Katitjin is committed to building strong partnerships with schools, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), and community organisations. The Engagement team works with internal and external partners to deliver programs that support prospective students and strengthen pathways into higher education.

Engagement opportunities include:

  • Community events and school visits
  • Opportunities to experience life-on-campus as an ECU student
  • Promotion of internships, graduate programs and employment initiatives with industry and community partners

Bilang Bilang program

Bilang Bilang (pronounced bil-ung bil-ung) is Kurongkurl Katitjin’s flagship residential program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students. The Noongar phrase means “shimmering bright on the river,” reflecting the growth and confidence students develop through the program.

Participants experience university life at ECU through hands-on workshops with academics, cultural activities, and opportunities to build connections with peers and staff.
