The Teaching and Learning team at Kurongkurl Katitjin is guided by Aboriginal worldviews that place Country, Community and culture at the heart of education. Our approach is strengths-based and grounded in high expectations, honesty and respect. We support educators across disciplines to embed Aboriginal knowledges and perspectives in meaningful, confident and culturally responsive ways.
We work collaboratively with staff and Community to design curriculum that challenges conventional models of teaching and learning. This includes facilitating reflective practice, co-creating knowledge with students and Elders, and delivering immersive On Country learning experiences. By engaging with land as classroom, students develop deeper understandings of place, relationality and cultural responsibility—gaining the skills to work respectfully alongside Aboriginal peoples in fields such as health, education, law, engineering and beyond.
Our practice is research-led and informed by projects exploring On Country learning, relational pedagogies and intersectional belonging for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This shapes how we design units, support educators and advocate for systemic change in higher education.
Through bold, culturally grounded education, we prepare graduates to be critically aware, culturally responsive professionals who contribute to stronger futures for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
