Student Success

Our Student Success team supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across all campuses and online throughout their higher education journey. Our dedicated Student Success Officers work closely with students to help them stay on track, navigate challenges, and achieve their academic and personal goals.

Personalised support

Student Success Officers provide practical and culturally responsive support, including:

  • Assisting with study progress, health and wellbeing
  • Helping students identify personal challenges and develop strategies to overcome them
  • Connecting students with specialist support services within the University and the wider community
  • Providing guidance on scholarships, opportunities and external programs offered through government and industry partners

Student resources

We offer a range of resources designed to support academic success and student wellbeing, these include:

  • Aboriginal Tutorial and Mentoring Program for additional academic support
  • Printing credits and assistance with unit materials
  • Online Nala Karla community, connecting students studying on campus and online
  • Dedicated study spaces through the Narla Karla rooms

Nala Karla spaces

The Nala Karla rooms are welcoming spaces located across ECU campuses where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can study, connect with others, or take time to recharge. These spaces provide computers, printing acilities and quiet study areas, while also offering a culturally safe environment that supports connection to identity, culture and Community.

Cultural support

Students can also connect with our Elder-in-Residence, who offers cultural guidance, mentorship and a supportive presence for students when they need advice, encouragement or a listening ear.
