The School of Business and Law (SBL) was very pleased to welcome an enthusiastic group of 24 Undiknas students for a week-long study tour in early August.

The visiting students had a busy week participating in workshops, presentations, a campus tour and social activities at the Joondalup and City Hub campuses.  The sessions covered areas such as developing oral presentation skills for business communications, discussing diversity and inclusion in a business context, exploring the dos and don’ts of social media and influencers, and building impactful PowerPoint presentations.

The program includes ECU Student Excellence Ambassadors sharing information about studying in Australia, delivering and participating in various study sessions and helping the students with their business pitch and proposals.

Undiknas, the University of National Education in Denpasar Bali, has enjoyed a relationship with ECU since 2017 with students annually coming to Perth to partake in academic study tours, either in person or virtually. There are two inbound and one virtual study tours scheduled for 2022.

The virtual study tour involves delivering the activities through a series of online workshops over an eight-week period.  This delivery was pioneered during the COVID pandemic and its success continues, providing opportunities for students who are not able to participate in an international tour.

The partnership has extended to include, for the first time, ECU marketing students travelling to Bali for a study tour at Undiknas University in July 2023.

Study tours provide inbound and ECU students opportunities to learn about the education processes of participating institutions while broadening their international cultural awareness. Furthermore, SBL benefits from building international partnerships for academic, research and industry partnerships.

Under direction from Associate Professor Madeleine Ogilvie, Nickey Ludkins and Melissa Fong-Emmerson organised the study tour. Nickey indicated that the Undiknas students were highly engaged and enthusiastic about all the sessions and experiences.

Melissa said that the Undiknas students particularly enjoyed the hands-on teaching and learning experiences.

Both the Undiknas and ECU students gained much from the experience and looked forward to building and maintaining contact through social platforms.

Participating student Alda Indah Awaliyah commented that ‘it was astonishing to be part of this program. No wonder people would like to pursue their dreams and study in Australia’.
