Landing a graduate position within the area of study and at a reputable organisation is a career goal for many of our students and graduates. It was no different for recent Marketing and Finance graduate Aimee L Eddy, who through ECU’s PASS program gained that extracurricular competitive volunteer skills employers are looking for and did just that.

“I decided to apply to get involved with PASS because I was passionate about Finance and wanted to share this passion with others. I am highly enthusiastic and enjoy forming connections so I felt the role as a PASS leader would be a fantastic opportunity to utilise that skillset,” Aimee says when asked why she decided to get involved.

The PASS program is a free academic support program available for all students at ECU enrolled in a PASS-supported unit, led by a second- or third-year student who has successfully completed the unit with high marks.

“The role (as a PASS leader) made me flexible and it enhanced my leadership skills, having to encourage and mentor peers many of whom were older than myself. I could talk for hours on the instrumental place PASS holds in the University and how positively it has impacted my life,” she adds.

With her enhanced skills, Aimee applied for the Graduate position in Business Banking with Westpac at a chaotic time in March earlier this year; a time when most organisations were moving online due to COVID-19. Despite the challenges, Aimee successfully applied and landed the position, and now she has just finished her degree in the second semester of 2020.

“I know that PASS is (was) a huge factor in getting my Graduate position in Business Banking with Westpac. Westpac had only one Business Banking position available in Perth, after five rounds of interviews, I was lucky enough to receive such a role,” Aimee says.

Aimee was determined that she would get a graduate position she was interested in, and she continues to emphasis that it is, after having her children and finishing her degree, her largest accomplishments in life so far.

“The reason being is Graduate jobs with the big four banks are highly competitive – they are largely filled with opportunity to learn, progress in your career and undertake fulfilling work. I feel honoured to have gotten the opportunity,” Aimee finishes.

Aimee will start her Graduate position with Westpac in February 2021.

Congratulations Aimee on your achievements!
