Janine enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the beginning of 2020 after her one of her daughters completed her degree at ECU in 2019. With a full load this semester, Janine who is the co-founder of not-for-profit No Limits Perth, has also been tirelessly working with vulnerable members of the community.

“No Limits Perth started with me and two police officers seeing the unmet need around us, we decided to join our network and become do-ers. We’re a not for profit charity providing essential emergency support services across Perth’s northern suburbs to the most vulnerable and at-risk members of the community. We assist community members by providing them access to basic needs such as food, transport, furniture, hygiene and personal items and facilitates access to emergency accommodation,” says Janine.

The aim of the organisation was initially to fully furnish empty homes for those needing a new start.

“We reached out to victims of domestic violence via our Facebook page and we quickly realised that we needed to be a lot more flexible in our thinking. Crisis included everything from victims of domestic violence, house fires, those who were forced to relocate due to sick children receiving care, unemployment, newcomers to our country, single parented families, grandparents raising grandchildren and the list goes on,” Janine says.

“The extent of our free service was not just to furnish homes; we also have three days of food distribution per week to families in the local area. We also supply, toiletries, toys, linen and other items to those doing it tough. All our donations are 100% free of charge and so is our service.”

At No Limits Perth, there are no two days that ever look the same. The only definite thing that happens each week is their food program which runs on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, which is run by Adele, another vital member of the team.

With an organisational motto of ‘One random act of kindness at a time’, there is no doubt all involved in No Limits Perth are working together to equip and empower community members to feel resilient, gain hope and instil the belief that there is a brighter future ahead.

One of Janine’s lecturers, Dr Sayidi Mat Roni, highlights the level of engagement and dedication Janine has had throughout the recent challenging months of the pandemic.

“Janine didn’t miss a single online class during the lockdown. She made every effort to be actively engaged in the online class with sharing her thoughts and answering questions in the chat box, while I was delivering the lecture via Blackboard Collaborate. At one time, she privately texted me via Collaborate that she needed to disappear for a moment to hand over stacks of food to a delivery van,” Dr Mat Roni says.

During Dr Mat Roni’s final class of the semester he mentioned Janine’s amazing work to the class.

“The whole class gave her a big round of applause. I could hear the other students clapping over my headphone. That’s amazing!” says Dr Mat Roni.

Janine says she has already been able to apply what she is learning in her MBA course into her workplace.

“I believe my studies will continue to help equip me to make wise decisions and I look forward to the positive impact it will have running the organisation more efficiently and more effectively,” she says.

If you or anyone you know is needing food support or any other support services such as reporting domestic violence, Janine urges you to let No Limit Perth know and not to hesitate, No Limits are there to help. For assistance you can go onto their website & fill in an assistance form.
