For the last twelve months, ECU's School of Business and Law students have been working with organisations over in the USA on marketing, project management and events internships.

Digital Marketing and Communications Consultant Emily Rosenthal is based in Orange County, USA and hosted the students with two of her clients, Paradise Galleries and Intellivision.

"I have hosted two students: Rachel and Emma and though located on opposite ends of the globe, we worked very well together through the use of Skype video chats and email communication. Both were extraordinarily dedicated, diligent, passionate and interested in the brands, and very detail-oriented. They asked good questions, they picked up new skills and software programs with ease, and overall they provided much needed and good quality marketing help to the brands."

Students have the opportunity to undertake work placements in their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at ECU, and they are a fantastic way of bringing skills learnt into the classroom into the real world.

"Rachel took over all of the social media communication: replying to comments, answering messages, reporting back on customer service issues and frequently asked questions. She quickly became our brand voice! She also performed outreach to social media influencers and did research on competitive products."

"Initially Emma was to be part of the event planning team and help get us ready for the big E3 show in Los Angeles in May. However due to the Covid-19 crisis, that show (and her trip to the U.S.) was cancelled. Instead, Emma performed a variety of tasks and projects for us including competitive product research, creation of email messages, data analysis, video cataloguing, and more."

Emily has been very impressed with the two students she has hosted in 2019/20 and looks forward to hosting more virtually in the coming semester.

"Having marketing knowledge helps, but that can be taught - what cannot be taught are passion, dedication, and work ethic. The ECU interns possessed all of those qualities, making the experiences very successful. I am very grateful to Dr. Collins and to ECU for providing these two very high quality interns."
