Lecturer Dr Stephanie Meek, has been actively involved with the organisation On My Feet for many years. On My Feet assists those at risk or dealing with homelessness by providing exercise groups and structured programs which are aimed at creating pathways to self-sufficiency and improved wellbeing.
In collaboration with Homeless Week in Australia, On My Feet organised the campaign ‘Run with On My Feet’ during the second weekend of August. The aim being to help raise vital funds to transform the lives of those at risk or dealing with homelessness.
Dr Stephanie Meek collected her fellow colleagues to join in on the run, or walk, with alternatives of 5km, 10km, or 20km routes.
Dr Stephanie Meek, who sent a photo of her granddaughter joining in on the walk in her pram, said it was so fun and motivating to do this as a team challenge.
Other academics kept posting in the email chain during the Saturday to keep the spirits up and motivation high.
“I’ve just got back from my 10km run – closer to 11km because my music was pumping!”, posted Dr Greg Willson after coming back from his run early on the Saturday morning.
“It was very motivating to keep the strides going, seeing you had all done it, so I had no excuse. Thank you, Steph, for organising!”, Dr Claire Lambert posted on the Sunday.
100% of the registration fee and fundraising efforts will go towards supporting the work of On My Feet.
