Edith Cowan University’s School of Business and Law kicked off its mid-year orientation week with a bang, with new Undergraduate and Postgraduate students engaging in a series of events and insightful talks designed to set the stage for an enriching learning journey.
Here’s a quick recap of the highlights from the week:
The undergraduate "Battle of the Disciplines” was an adrenaline-fuelled experience, where Business and Law lecturers had five minutes to present a compelling argument for studying courses within their respective disciplines. The event not only encouraged healthy academic rivalry but also sparked the students' enthusiasm for their chosen fields.
The postgraduate orientation day was no less engaging and informative. School of Business and Law Executive Dean Maryam Omari, along with other academics, welcomed more than 130 new postgraduate students. The information session not only showcased the expertise and opportunities within the School, but also motivated the students to think about where their postgraduate study could take them.
Following each information session, the campus came alive with vibrant pizza parties, courtesy of ECU Joondalup’s on-campus pizzeria, Slice of Italy. Students had the opportunity to meet their future lecturers in an informal setting and ask questions about their chosen courses. The laid-back atmosphere of the event helped create a relaxed and friendly environment.
Throughout the entirety of O-week, the School demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity and support for international students. To aid international students in understanding the intricacies of the Australian tax system and their responsibilities during employment, a tax clinic seminar was organised. Led by Associate Professor Prafula Pearce and registered tax agent Dhvani Thakkar, the seminar offered essential knowledge to ensure a smooth transition into the Australian work environment.
Welcome to all our new students!
