Leadership and People Research Cluster

Cluster Leads

Associate Professor Janice Redmond and Dr Andrei Lux

Abstract

The Leadership and People Research Cluster (LPRC) brings together a team of active and engaged scholars across two major complementary areas of existing research strength in the Management Discipline, around leadership and human resource management.

The focus is on producing engaged applied research, developing a productive and collaborative research culture, and translating Cluster research contributions for industry and the public through various outputs. These research endeavours advance our ECU values of rational enquiry and progress SBL toward Strategic Priorities Goal 2: undertaking impactful world-class research.

The LPRC covers FoR codes 3507 and 3505, which were previously together under 1503. These two areas share a micro level of analysis focus and have considerable overlap; it therefore makes sense to work together as a larger group with two specific research themes.

The leadership theme will approach research from an organisational behaviour perspective that corresponds with members’ interests and expertise. Organisational behaviour includes studies of individuals and groups within an organizational context. The field focuses on attributes, processes, behaviours, and outcomes within and between individuals, groups, and organizations.

The Cluster will continue to bring a leadership lens to major topics in organisational behaviour, focusing on tackling future-oriented issues across these domains with an emphasis on contemporary leadership models that are authentic, inclusive, and resilient.

The human resource management theme will focus on understanding, identifying, and improving the effectiveness of HR practices to support strategic organizational goals, encourage individual growth and development, and enhance individual performance, work-related attitudes, and well- being. HR addresses a spectrum of issues pertaining to the recruitment, selection, allocation, development, utilization, evaluation, compensation, and retention of people in organizations.

The Cluster will emphasize studies of careers, job design, and embeddedness, at the individual, group, organizational, and cross-cultural levels of analysis and their impact on outcomes critical to organizations, employees, and stakeholders.
