Edith Cowan University’s School of Business and Law invites you to the ECU Business Flashlight, a regular forum for researchers and practitioners to engage in collaborative dialogue with industry and government on relevant issues in business and management.
This Business Flashlight examines the current state of play and associated challenges in the short-stay accommodation sector. Policy and practical concerns about emerging business models utilizing online booking platforms are outlined and discussed.
This forum will feature the following presenters:
Keynote Speaker: Jessica Jane Shaw MLA, BA (Dist), LLB (Hons), BA (Hons), LLM is the member for Swan Hills in the WA Legislative Assembly and Chair of the Parliament’s Economics and Industry Standing Committee. The EISC is currently undertaking inquiries into short-stay accommodation and Microgrids and associated technologies.
Prior to entering parliament, Jessica was a senior commercial executive in the energy sector, responsible for developing and managing a wide range of regulated and unregulated assets. She has extensive experience in the business development, commercial management and economic regulation, in both electricity and gas. Jessica’s early career was in foreign affairs. She was Political and Economic Attaché to the British High Commission also worked for the Australian Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade committee. Jessica has three undergraduate degrees in law, politics and international relations and a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge.
Guest Speaker: Dr Dale Putland is the Director of Sustainable Development, Shire of Augusta and Margaret River. He also holds an adjunct position with the Institute for Integrated Intelligent Systems at Griffith University. His research interests are in Public Policy, Regional Economic Development, Development and Planning Policy, Leadership and Ethical Behaviour.
Insight Speaker: Professor Kerry Brown, PhD is Professor of Employment and Industry and Director of the Centre for Innovative Practice in the School of Business and Law at the Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia.Her research interests include public management, infrastructure asset management, industry clustering, negotiation and employment relations and, innovation and change.
