Cardiometabolic Health

Over 55,000 people die of cardiovascular disease around the world each day. A less obvious toll lies in the rarity of surviving cardiovascular disease events with your quality of life intact. Even after the acute effects, survivors of heart attack or stroke are often disabled by impacts ranging from an inability to stand or walk unaided, to depression, to struggles with even mundane tasks like bathing and eating. Our School is involved in world-class cardiometabolic health research to reduce the burden of this disease in Australia and globally. This exciting research encompasses cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, with particular expertise in vascular calcification, novel biomarkers, clinical trialling, bone and mineral metabolism, suboptimal health, and fruit and vegetable bioactives.
