Sophia Nimphius is the Professor of Human Performance at Edith Cowan University (ECU) and PhD Coordinator for the School of Medical and Health Sciences. She is also the Analyst and Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Junior Spirit (Australian Junior National Softball Team) and consultant to the National team leading into the Tokyo Olympic Games. She was previously Sports Science Manager for the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre, High Performance Manager for Softball Western Australia and has been involved in elite sport for over 20 years. She is an accomplished keynote speaker, coach and researcher with an ability to convey a message to a variety of audiences, driven by the constant desire to improve and positively influence the industry and as a larger whole, our society.

She has published over 80 scientific journal articles and 9 book chapters on enhancing athletic performance, has been a keynote speaker at numerous conferences internationally and has successfully attracted more than $1.5M of grant funding, mostly with industry partners. As a passionate advocate and mentor for women and under-represented groups, she strives to enhance their representation in science, technology, engineering and math with a particular interest in driving their representation in high-performance sport. She contributes to many committees and boards to help drive systemic change for women in sport and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). In 2016, she became the first woman to be elected to the Board of Directors of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association.
