Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice

ECU has been recognised by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for the third consecutive year since 2016.  ECU is one of two universities, and one of only three organisations in WA who have been awarded the Citation.

Why is this important for gender equality?

To be awarded the Citation, ECU needed to demonstrate its commitment and best practice approach in promoting gender equality and attain legislative compliance in the first instance. Criteria for the citation cover leadership, learning and development, gender remuneration gaps, flexible working and other initiatives to support family responsibilities, employee consultation, preventing sex-based harassment and discrimination, and targets for improving gender equality outcomes.

ECU is required to report annually to Federal Government on its policies and strategies that promote gender equality. This is a requirement of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.

The 2019 report contains a snapshot of the number of fixed-term and ongoing staff employed by the university on 31 March 2019, and casual staff numbers across the period 1 April 2018 - 31 March 2019.
