Our members

ECU TRACS DRN members are based in multiple Schools and are drawn together by their shared interest in multidisciplinary research relating to migration, mobilities, diversity, multiculturalism, and plurality.

TRACS is supported by co-conveners comprising staff and HDR students from the School of Arts and Humanities.

Professor Loretta Baldassar

Professor Loretta Baldassar is Vice Chancellor Professorial Research Fellow and Director of the Social Ageing (SAGE) Futures Lab. She also leads the TRACS Migration Research Network at ECU to support an active program of national and international collaborations.

Associate Professor Justine Dandy

Associate Professor Justine Dandy is Academic Coordinator, HDR Programs for the School of Arts and Humanities and Associate Director of the Centre for People, Place and Planet. Her research is on acculturation, intercultural relations in plural societies and the nexus between place attachment, environmental change and mobility.

Dr Jamal Barnes

Dr Jamal Barnes is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology in the School of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on human rights issues, such as refugee and asylum movements, torture, and the international human rights framework. He is the author of the book, A Genealogy of the Torture Taboo.

Dr Catriona Stevens

Dr Catriona Stevens is a Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellow in the School of Arts and Humanities. She is a sociologist and anthropologist with expertise in labour migration, social class and migration, migrant aged care workforce issues, and ageing and transnational caregiving.

Yavar Fadavi Asghari

Yavar Fadavi is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the School of Arts and Humanities. His research focuses on immigration, acculturation, and social identity, particularly how cultural, national, ethnic, and religious identities are negotiated in intercultural relations and how they contribute to positive migrant adaptation outcomes.
