Jan McDonald, one of the SBL’s PRME knitting group members, with this year’s contribution.
2022 is the third time that the School of Business and Law’s (SBL) Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) group has got their knitting needles out to help people facing hardship.
The initiative is coordinated by Dr Judy Lundy, who is part of the PRME group and Director of SBL’s MBA program. SBL became involved after Judy saw a community group asking for volunteers on social media.
‘Over the three years we’ve donated 124 beanies, scarves and bedsocks/slippers, many of which have been knitted with reclaimed wool’ said Judy. ‘In previous years they have been distributed to people experiencing homelessness in Perth’, she said.
‘In 2022, the Ukrainian Association of WA will be sending them to Ukraine in time for its next winter or distributed to Ukrainians in Perth who have fled the war.’
The most prolific contributor is Sharen Willson, mother of our Course Coordinator of Tourism and Hospitality Management Greg Willson. Sharen sends her items from her home in New Zealand. She said that she’d heard about the good work ECU does in the community. ‘I enjoy knitting and thought that sending a collection of beanies would be a great way to contribute to a cause that means a lot to us’.
The School of Business and Law (SBL) Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) and Sustainability Steering Committee, creates and joins multiple initiatives throughout the year which align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
If you would like to add to this year’s tally, the SBL PRME/Sustainability team is happy to do another collection and drop off in a month or so.
