MBA student Joseph Cameron has been successfully combining study around his FIFO job
Not so long ago it was very difficult for a FIFO worker to also study.
That’s not the case now. MBA student Joseph Cameron has been successfully combining study around his FIFO job which takes him to all different locations around the state.
The flexibility of the course and the support of his lecturers has meant that he has now made it to his final semester successfully.
Joseph said that lecturers helped him to access content outside of work hours and to complete assignments around work.
According to Joseph the juggling and effort has been worthwhile. ‘I didn’t understand how far this course would push me out of my comfort zone. Many of the units covered completely new content for me, which was great for my learning.’
His advice to anyone considering doing an MBA is to have a growth and sharing mindset. ‘Look at it as an opportunity to meet more people and make connections. For example, I have made lasting friends with people I met through doing a group assignment together.’
‘And finally, make the effort to get know the staff. They are passionate people who are there to help you.’
MBA Director Dr Judy Lundy said ‘Joseph is typical of an ECU MBA student who is juggling competing priorities as they study to support career advancement or switching. The academic team recognises this challenge and staff are committed to helping students achieve their aspirations while fulfilling their other commitments’.
‘The design of the program with its combination of online, hybrid and intensive delivery patterns suited to busy professionals, also supports this.’
