The purpose of the collaborative research project is to examine the effectiveness of the communications campaign of the three-bin system rollout and the introduction of the three-bin project in the City of Joondalup. The project sits against the backdrop of the Australian Government’s 2018-2030 National Waste Policy: Less waste, more resources.
The objective of this study is to support the aim to reduce waste generation by 20% in 2030, and diversion rates of 65% by 2020. Hence, a survey was conducted in 2020 to understand the waste separation behaviour of Joondalup residents towards using the three bin system to separate their household waste into general rubbish, recyclables, and green waste.
