Dr Libby Jackson-Barrett is a Whadjuk woman with deep connections to Walyalup (Fremantle) and other Nyungar nations. Libby is the Associate Dean Teaching and Learning at Kurongkurl Katitjin, Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research, and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University.
Libby has worked in Initial Teacher Education for more than 20 years, with a longstanding commitment to culturally responsive and critical pedagogy, diversity and inclusion, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.
Libby's research centres Aboriginal knowledges in teaching and learning. She is the developer of the INFUSE Framework, which supports educators to infuse Aboriginal knowledges meaningfully across the Australian Curriculum and in teacher education. Her work also spans Aboriginal children's literature and representation, language and literacy, play-based and place-based learning, and Aboriginal students' transitions into and through higher education. She is currently developing place-based curriculum connected to Whadjuk Boodjar, professional learning for teachers on Aboriginal knowledges in science, and evaluations of community and arts-based programs, including the Deadly Arts: Early Years Noongar culture and arts program.
Beyond the university, Libby is Chair of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee at Boola Bardip (WA Museum) and a Board Member of Fremantle Press. She also supervises Higher Degree by Research students.
