The Athena SWAN parenting room at Edith Cowan College has achieved a 5-star rating from the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

The recently updated space had its status increased to 5-stars after undergoing a series of improvements including new furnishings and toys for children.

All seven of the ECU Athena SWAN parenting rooms at the Joondalup, Mount Lawley and Bunbury Campuses are now rated 5-stars.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd said the University is committed to building a supportive and inclusive work and study environment.

“We understand the challenges of needing to come back to work or study and simultaneously fulfilling your role as a parent or carer,” Professor Rudd said.

“This is why we have 5-star rated parenting facilities on all campuses, allowing our staff and students to achieve a successful balance in their lives.”

The parenting rooms include a fridge, microwave, feeding chair and privacy screen for breastfeeding mothers, washing up facilities, change table, high chair and toys for children.

There are also plans to establish a new parenting room in Building 18 at the Joondalup Campus in the coming months.
