More than 130 enthusiastic Children’s University (CU) students and families brought energy and excitement to Edith Cowan University during the October school holidays, taking part in hands-on workshops at our Joondalup and South West campuses.

Designed to make learning fun, aspirational, and inspiring, the program featured eight creative workshops led by ECU academics, staff, and student ambassadors from Education, Nursing and Midwifery, Engineering, and the University Department of Rural Health – South West. Special thanks also to the City of Bunbury’s Waste Education team for joining the fun!

A Healthy Dose of Learning in the South West

At the South West campus, good health was the theme of the day with four interactive workshops:

Be A Good Sort – Families learned how to reduce household waste to protect our planet.
Healing Heroes – Junior nurses got hands-on experience in ECU’s high-tech Demonstration Ward.
Food Sleuths: Sneaky Sugars and Furtive Fats – Young detectives uncovered the hidden sugars and fats in everyday foods.
Dazzling DNA – Budding scientists extracted strawberry DNA and built edible “cells” using healthy ingredients.

Variety is the Spice of Life in Perth

At the Joondalup campus, four Schools showcased learning with a twist:

Mock Trial: The Strange Case of the Sinking Boat – Students explored courtroom drama, mystery, and debate.
Nursing Ninjas – Participants tried hands-on nursing tasks using the latest VR simulation technology.
Raise the Bar with Maths – Families discovered the fun side of mathematics through games and challenges.
Build a Bridge (And Get Over It!) – Aspiring engineers designed and built digital and concrete bridges.
