Advanced Physical Assessment

The School of Nursing and Midwifery's Physical Assessment short course will take you through the  process of conducting a systematic  physical assessment. By the end of the session, you will be able to perform an accurate and detailed clinical assessment. You will also learn how to ensure that the documentation accurately reflects the findings of the clinical assessment and articulates exam findings. The course includes a short didactic portion followed by in person demonstration of physical exam techniques.

Why is this course for you

Are you an experienced nurse who is wishing to enhance your skills knowledge and competence in the process of conducting a comprehensive physical assessment? This course is conducted by  experienced  Nurse Practitioners who are also ECU nursing academics. The one-day short course will take place in our  demonstration wards on the ECU Bnbury campus, providing a simulated ward environment in which the educator will discuss and demonstrate advanced physical assessment.

Program Objectives

  • To describe the purpose and process for conducting a systematic approach to physical assessment;
  • To be able to perform an accurate and detailed clinical assessment;
  • To ensure documentation accurately reflects the findings of the clinical assessment, and articulates assessment outcomes.
