Resulting from an action within the ECU Athena SWAN Bronze Action Plan 2018 – 2022, ECU has developed a database of leading practice gender equity initiatives on a global scale. This catalogue of initiatives will be maintained and updated annually to inform new strategies to support gender equality at ECU.
This leading practice database is a result of a significant review and analysis of evidence. The results of this process are able to be shared at the institutional and department level to determine if additional informal and/or formal support is needed across the University.
The Athena SWAN self-assessment process challenged ECU to develop and improve policies and practices to support different categories of staff. This leading practice database reinforces this support and allows a framework where good practice in the gender equality space, on an international level can be identified, celebrated and shared across ECU for continuous improvement purposes.
While there’s no one-size-fits-all method for achieving gender equality, having a process that identifies the foremost best practice initiatives across all universities allows a holistic view of the sector. Additionally, this database allows ECU to benchmark Athena SWAN actions with those of other universities.
