Girls Programming Network Day at ECU

On Saturday, 7 May 2022, the second event for Girls Programming Network event for 2022, saw women from the IT industry teaching Year 10, 11 and 12 high school girls how to code at ECU’s Joondalup Campus.

The Girls Programming Network (GPN) strives to the advance the role women and girls in IT.

The GPN is a program developed and run by girls and for girls. Managed by a group of female university students and women from the IT industry, this program is targeted at high school girls interested in IT, particularly those interested in learning to program or improving their software development skills.

The topic of the day was Cyber Security with recent graduates from Woodside Energy and CyberCX providing career and university and TAFE course information to the year 10 11 and 12 students. The students were coding Password Cracker and along the way the girls learned about hashing, storing passwords, and the use of passphrases.

GPN is a unique opportunity to meet make new friends with similar interests, meet industry women and find out about careers in computing.
