ECU is hosting a WA Women's Hall of Fame photographic exhibition
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is hosting a travelling photographic exhibition featuring sixteen Western Australian women, who in 2022 have been inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame.
Each year, the WA Women’s Hall of Fame acknowledges and celebrates the enormous contributions and achievements women have made to Western Australia. This year, sixteen new inductees were acknowledged for their significant contribution to WA and four women were inducted io the ‘Roll of Honour’. The 2022 cohort of inductees included four ECU alumna and staff, who received the honour in the presence of His Excellency the Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia.
ECU has a strong relationship with the WA Women’s Hall of Fame and officially launched a partnership on 6 March 2020 as part of ECU’s International Women’s Day celebration. ECU also provides a home for an ongoing exhibition of the WA Women’s Hall of Fame, showcasing a series of photographs of inductees at Edith Cowan House, permanently located on ECU’s Joondalup Campus.
The 2022 class of inductees is diversely represented, with 70% of the women acknowledged from CaLD and/or Aboriginal communities. Just some of the women featured in the travelling exhibition include:
To provide a more detailed summary of what each of these women has achieved, a commemorative booklet is available for download to accompany the exhibition.
ECU is showcasing the exhibition at the Edith Cowan University Library, 2 Bradford Street, Mt Lawley, until 19 August 2022.
The exhibition is located in the foyer of the Library Building 8, open Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday, 10:00am – 5:00pm.
First established in 2011 in recognition of the Centenary of International Women’s Day, the WA Women’s Hall of Fame celebrates the significant achievements of Western Australian women past and present.
ECU is a proud partner of the WA Women’s Hall of Fame. The University’s connection with the WA Women’s Hall of Fame extends to some of its distinguished inductees. ECU’s namesake, Edith Dircksey Cowan, was the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament and was an inaugural inductee of the WA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011. ECU’s Chancellor Denise Goldsworthy AO was also inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011 and former ECU Chancellor the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
