On Saturday, 6 August 2022, the third event for Girls Programming Network event for 2022, saw women from the IT industry teaching Year 10, 11 and 12 high school girls how to code at ECU’s Joondalup Campus.

The Girls Programming Network (GPN) strives to the advance the role women and girls in IT.

The GPN is a program developed and run by girls - for girls. Managed by a group of female university students and women from the IT industry, this program is targeted at high school girls interested in IT, particularly those interested in learning to program or improving their software development skills.

The topic of the event this term was to learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to code a secret diary. With presentations from guest speakers from Microsoft, this provided the year 10, 11 and 12 students with an idea of where AI technology is at and where it is heading. The students were coding while they created images of unicorns in surreal environments!

GPN is a unique opportunity to meet make new friends with similar interests, meet industry women and find out about careers in computing.

For more information on the GPN, visit the School of Science website.
