2022 Edith Cowan Athena Swan Advancement Scheme

Four ECU staff members have been recognised for their resilience, perseverance and commitment to gender equality with an Edith Cowan Athena Swan Advancement Scheme honour in the seventh round of the Awards.

The Edith Cowan Athena Swan Advancement Scheme aims to celebrate gender diversity in the spirit of the Athena Swan principles, providing professional development opportunities to those who have parental or caring responsibilities as they progress in their careers and/or recognising ECU’s gender equality champions who make a difference to the status quo at work every day through exemplary leadership.

Members of the ECU community celebrated the winning recipients at a ceremony which took place on 11 October 2022, co-hosted by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures), Professor Cobie Rudd.

ECU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman CBE, presented certificates to the recipients of the awards and acknowledged how important the Athena Swan Advancement Scheme is to the University.

In a very competitive round, there were three winners of the 2022 Edith Cowan Athena Swan Advancement Scheme and an Honourable Mention:

Career Advancement Subsidy

  • Dr Kate Crookes - School of Nursing and Midwifery

STEMM Advancement Subsidy

  • Dr Lois Balmer, School of Medical and Health Sciences

STEMM Advancement Subsidy - Honourable Mention

  • Dr Charn Nang, School of Medical and Health Sciences

In recognition of achievements and sustained resilience, ECU supports Dr Crookes, Dr Balmer and Dr Nang's career advancement in the spirit of the principles of the Athena Swan Charter, recognised by the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Ltd initiative.

Leadership Advancement Subsidy

  • Dr Christina Gray, School of Education

As a champion for gender equality, ECU recognises Dr Gray's leadership aspirations in the spirit of the principles of the Athena Swan Charter.
