Prof. Cobie Rudd addresses the audience at the 2023 WA Women’s Hall of Fame exhibition launch in Bunbury.
The 2023 WA Women’s Hall of Fame travelling photographic exhibition arrived at its final stop on 2 December 2023 at the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre. A celebratory opening event formally launched the exhibition with ECU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Regional Futures) and Vice-President (and Bunbury local), Professor Cobie Rudd, featuring as guest speaker.
Each year, the WA Women’s Hall of Fame is a preeminent program which acknowledges the women across the community, and around the State, who are making a difference in Western Australia (WA) through significant contributions. This year, 16 'inspiring' women were celebrated for their significant contribution to WA with another four women recognised posthumously, in the ‘Roll of Honour’. The 2023 cohort of inductees featured Professor Rudd, who received the honour at a gala ceremony held at Government House on 7 March 2023.
As a 2023 WA Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee, it was particularly poignant for Professor Rudd to mark the occasion by sharing insights on her career journey, reflecting on what receiving a Women’s Hall of Fame Award means to her and acknowledging the extraordinary achievements of women in the community.
“I feel privileged to be part of this special group of WA women who have left a mark on our community. Over the years, these women have all contributed enormously to the State and it is important to celebrate and acknowledge these achievements that have really made a difference.”
The Exhibition is officially open between 10am and 4pm with free entry Tuesday to Sunday alongside the Women of Dardanup display, until 28 January 2024 and is located at 1 Arthur Street, City of Bunbury.
The University’s connection with the WA Women’s Hall of Fame extends to some of its distinguished inductees. Alongside Professor Rudd, ECU’s namesake, Edith Dircksey Cowan, was the first woman elected to an Australian Parliament and was an inaugural inductee of the WA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011. ECU’s Chancellor Denise Goldsworthy AO was also inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011 and former ECU Chancellor the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
