ECU researchers benefit from open access publishing with no APC under current agreements.
In 2025, the ECU Library has administered a series of Read & Publish Agreements, allowing ECU researchers to publish open access—on acceptance—with no article processing charge (APC).
Some publishers allow only a capped number of articles under these agreements. It is anticipated that caps for Springer Nature, Wiley Publishing (hybrid titles), and Taylor & Francis will be reached during September and October 2025.
If your article is accepted after the cap has expired, the publisher will notify you. If you do not wish to pay the APC, you may choose to publish behind a paywall and deposit the Author’s Accepted Manuscript (AAM) in Research Online, ECU’s institutional repository.
Cap numbers for each agreement will reset on 1 January 2026.
Information on current agreements is available on Research Companion – Read & Publish Agreements. The dashboard shows current usage and includes a search interface by FoR code or description.
As of 15 June 2025, 127 articles with an ECU corresponding author have had the APC waived under these agreements.
For support on leveraging these agreements, contact the Library Scholarly Communication team at researchonline@ecu.edu.au.
