To Read or Not to Read: Literacy Matters — the 2025 theme for Library and Information Week, running from 28 July to 3 August.
From 28 July to 3 August, ECU Library is celebrating Library and Information Week, an initiative led by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
This year’s theme — To Read or Not to Read: Literacy Matters — highlights how access, equity, and opportunity shape our ability to read and engage with the world. Reading may be beloved by many, but it’s not a level playing field. Libraries across the country are working to break down barriers to literacy, from digital access and language diversity to socioeconomic disadvantage and learning support.
ECU Library is committed to breaking down these barriers by providing inclusive spaces, expert support, and access to tools and resources that empower our community. This includes free workshops, loan laptops, learning technologies, accessible study areas, and a rich collection of print and digital materials.
The Library also leads the implementation of ECU’s Digital Literacy Framework, a university-wide strategy that embeds essential digital skills into coursework and supports lifelong learning.
Delivered in collaboration with the Centre for Learning and Teaching, Graduate Research School, Careers and Employability Services, and all eight ECU Schools, the Framework ensures that digital literacy is an integral part of every student’s journey.
Visit your campus Library during the week to view a digital display exploring this year’s theme and ECU’s role in advancing literacy for all.
