Project title:

  • Perspectives on Youth Mental Illness

Supervisors:

  • Dr Mandie Shean
  • Dr Cath Ferguson

Summary of thesis:

Despite efforts in treatment and prevention strategies, prevalence of mental illness in youth remains high. The aim of this study is to examine youth mental health support services and the impacts of youth mental illness, including impacts to education, through the perspectives of youth, parents and teachers. This study will be guided by the philosophical paradigms of social justice theory and ground theory. It is expected that this study will reveal how youth respond to and manage mental illness and highlight areas of need for youth from a societal context.
