Supervisors:

  • Dr Kay Ayre

Summary of thesis:

One of the dominant discourses of schooling is behaviour. However, little is known about the prevalence, scope, nature and effects of challenging behaviour within the early childhood context in Western Australia, specific to the Kindergarten year. What are teachers’ perspectives and perceptions on challenging, disruptive and extreme behaviours exhibited by young children in mainstream classrooms in early years educational settings? What do we know about the nature and extent of the behaviours and the problems associated with them in the early childhood context?
