Project title:

  • Causes of stress at school: Giving voice to students’ lived experiences

Supervisors:

  • Dr Mandie Shean
  • Dr Maggie McAlinden

Summary of thesis:

Due to a paucity of qualitative research, this thesis aims to discover the answers to two key research questions: What are middle school aged students’ lived experiences of stress at school? What factors ameliorate this stress? After a phenomenological analysis of surveys, journaling and interviews, this thesis shares school children’s perspectives on what causes them and helps them ameliorate stress. Such powerful insights have the potential to improve children's wellbeing and future success.
