  • The status of design and technology education in secondary schools: An ethnographic case study of perceptions in Western Australia

Summary of thesis:

My PhD research project will apply a critical ethnographic approach to case studies from experienced Design and Technology teachers in WA public secondary schools. The need for the study is driven by long-lasting issues of poor teacher recruitment and retention, leading to schools experiencing D&T staff shortages. The findings of this study will aim to improve the well-being of teachers with the overall goal of improving the status, uptake and retention of teachers in the profession.
