  • Towards communication-oriented language teaching at the primary English level: A Vietnamese perspective

Summary of thesis:

My research explores how primary English teachers in Vietnam implement mandated Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) in their practices. The research findings show that there is a big gap between CLT in theory and teachers’ practices, and that there are misconceptions about CLT from policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and individual teacher levels. The research suggests that contextual factors should be carefully considered when adopting a Western-based teaching approach like CLT into the Vietnamese context.
