Project title:

  • Place Literacies: Literacies emerging in Place-child(ren) common worlds

Supervisors:

  • Professor Mindy Blaise
  • Associate Professor Lennie Barblett
  • Dr Gillian Kirk

Summary of thesis:

My research is situated within a common worlds framework and draws from feminist new materialisms and posthuman theories of literacies. Throughout the study, the practice of thinking-with Noongar place stories is a necessary practice for thinking otherwise about Western practices that separate children from place. Through '(re)situating' place and children within shared common worlds, the study aims to understand the literacies emerging when place and children think together to generate knowing, becoming and doing literacies.
