Library Collections support ECU’s budding and expert musicians with online access to classical and other music scores – see what’s new!

Nkoda performance app and ProQuest Alexander Street Music Online Classical Scores Library offer features that help you engage with scores in contemporary ways - beyond what you can do with sheet music.

Notably, this means digital curation, sharing, and annotating.

You can explore the primary databases of written music content held in ECU Library’s A-Z list of databases:

And, use music streaming services:

And research databases on music:

ProQuest Alexander Street Music Online Classical Scores Library

ECU now has access ProQuest Alexander Street’s database of classical music scores: in-copyright digital scores of the classical canon.

Specifically the five-volume collection covers major classical musical genres, and time periods from the Middle Ages to the 21st century.

Access full, study, piano, and vocal scores.

(You’ll also discover lesser-known works.)

A note for academic staff: Did you know you can make playlists in the platform, and share them with students?

How to access digital scores in Alexander Street:

  • Find the login link at the ProQuest Alexander Street listing (under ‘A’) in ECU Library’s A-Z list of databases.
  • Log in using your ECU log in details.
  • Browse content or use the search box to find content.
(The content's been classified by title, genre, instrument, publisher, date, composer, and other fields, making it easy to search through multiple avenues for what you need.)
  • Once you’ve located a piece of music, you’ll be able to view, print, email, and share the work, and find key information succinctly summarised.
  • Optional: Create a free profile for ProQuest Alexander Street using an email address to: annotate, create and save to playlists, and copy and embed a link.

Nkoda

Nkoda is an app you can perform from, and a database of digital scores from leading publishers.

It’s designed for users to study, teach, and perform, with unlimited access to scores and performance materials.

You can find, organise, and annotate sheet music. The annotation layers allow you to mark up your scores for performance.

Users can upload content to the app (eg PDFs of your own sheet music) that can be intertwined with Nkoda’s licensed material.

Of note:

  • You can use Nkoda on a PC in the browser, limited to searching, reading, and saving to playlists. The annotation function is designed for the app, rather than a browser.
  • Nkoda is an electronic-only database; no printing of music available, however can function offline.
  • Nkoda’s content is from a wide variety of sources, and features lots of current materials.

Create an account:

  • Students and staff need to create a profile for Nkoda to get started (it’s not optional like Alexander Street).
  • Please visit our ez-proxy link for your first-time sign-up: https://www-nkoda-com.ezproxy.ecu.edu.au/
  • Follow these steps to create your account. You’ll need to use your ECU email address for this one.
